As the Civil War dawns, two cousins - one in the North, one in the South - struggle to maintain their correspondence as the nation is torn apart. Through their diaries and letters to each other, Amanda and Lavinia share their joys and sorrows in dealing with slavery and the war as they grow up during the most tumultuous time in American history.

Here you will find a few sample letters from the book, as well as occasional excerpts from other letters and diary entries.

(Of course, we do not have many to offer yet, because they are not quite ready.  We will, however, put more up as soon as they are edited sufficiently.)
